Underage Driver Fees and Limits

While some companies do offer car rentals to drivers at 20, many of them will charge underage driver fees. These fees are added to the per-day rental cost.

But you may be able to avoid this fee, which is usually charged to any driver under the age of 25. Learn more through our article, Car Rental Without Under 25 Fee? Yes, Here’s How.

Underage Car Rental Exceptions

If you’re renting a car from a company in the states of New York or Michigan, there’s good news for you: Anyone 18 and older can rent a car from any rental company in these two states.

Additionally, if you’re an on-duty member of the military or have government-issued travel orders, many car rental companies will rent to you as young as 18.
