Winn-Dixie Return Policy Explained (Receipt Info, Time Limit, etc)

Winn-Dixie store

Short Answer — Winn-Dixie’s return policy varies by store location. In general, the store allows for the return of most items within 14 to 30 days of purchase. To get a full refund to your original payment method, you’ll need the receipt. Without a receipt, you may be approved for store credit.

Winn-Dixie Return Policy

Winn-Dixie does not have a companywide return policy, a corporate customer service representative said. Instead, returns at Winn-Dixie are made at the discretion of individual store managers.

To understand typical return requirements at Winn-Dixie grocery stores, we contacted locations in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

We’ve outlined our findings below, but, keep in mind, return policies vary. To find out about your local Winn-Dixie’s return policy, you may want to contact the store directly.

General Return Requirements

Winn-Dixie allows for the return of most items anywhere from 14 to 30 days after purchase — and, in some instances, it doesn’t matter when you make a return, as returns are handled on a case-by-case basis.

While there isn’t a set time limit for returns, you will need to bring your receipt. During our research, 100% of the stores we contacted said that a receipt is required for a full refund to your original payment method.

If you don’t have the receipt but you are a member of Winn-Dixie’s rewards program, a store associate can look up your transaction. Without proof of purchase or a rewards card, you may be offered a partial refund or store credit — or your return may be denied.

Both perishable and nonperishable items can be returned or exchanged, though some stores implement a shorter return window for perishable items. Open-box returns are also allowed.

If the product is defective, spoiled, stale, or unsatisfactory, Winn-Dixie will offer a refund or replacement, customer service representatives said.

Return Exceptions

The following items are not eligible for return:

  • Baby food
  • Baby formula
  • Gift cards

Additionally, since some states prohibit the return of alcohol, you’ll want to review our article on alcohol return laws by state to find out if you can make an alcohol-related return.

Recalls

Winn-Dixie offers refunds for recalled products. Winn-Dixie lists current recalls on its website and suggests that customers either throw the items away or return them to the store where they purchased them for a full refund.

How to Make a Return at Winn-Dixie

To make a return at Winn-Dixie, visit the customer service desk. You’ll need to present the item along with your receipt or ask the store associate to look up your receipt using your Winn-Dixie rewards account.

The associate will determine whether or not your item is eligible for return and may seek approval from the store manager on duty.

Winn-Dixie’s service desk hours are usually the same as its store hours. Most stores are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. daily, though it’s best to contact your local store or check Winn-Dixie’s store locator for specifics.

I was just denied a refund on a whole chicken that was not edible…full of pink water and jelly…was told it was past the best before date. It was in my freezer…I had no way of knowing it was defective until I cooked it. I did not have receipt but had the packaging and bar code…and I have a member card
