Most major supermarket chains accept SNAP benefits and EBT cards — and that includes H-E-B. The grocery store chain with locations across Texas takes SNAP and EBT for qualifying in-store purchase. For more details on H-E-B’s store policy and SNAP benefits, see below.
Does H-E-B Take Food Stamps?
Yes, H-E-B supermarkets accept SNAP benefits and EBT cards for qualifying food purchases, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s retailer locator for SNAP-approved vendors and customer service associates at several H-E-B locations. However, you can’t use EBT for its grocery delivery services. H-E-B partners with third-party grocery delivery services Shipt and Instacart; neither Shipt nor Instacart currently accept EBT.
H-E-B is a San Antonio, Texas-based supermarket chain with 350 locations across the state. In addition to groceries, H-E-B also sells toys, electronics, sporting equipment, and household goods. But, keep in mind, SNAP benefits can only be used to buy food items.
Texas EBT benefits are issued to the Lone Star Card. If you have trouble using your card at H-E-B or another grocery store, contact Texas Health and Human Services at (800) 777-7328 for assistance.
If you’re a recipient of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, you can use your Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card like a debit card to make food purchases at participating retailers.
