Short Answer — Some Plato’s Closet store locations buy swimsuits — but typically only if they are new with the tags attached. Also, with the exception of sports bras, Plato’s Closet stores do not buy bras, even if they are new.

Does Plato’s Closet Buy Swimsuits?

Some Plato’s Closet stores buy swimsuits. Plato’s Closet is a franchise, meaning its stores are individually owned and operated.

There is no companywide policy on swimsuits, so we contacted store locations in Arizona, Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, and Tennessee to find out about individual store policies.

Half of the stores we contacted said that they do not accept swimwear, sleepwear, or undergarments; this includes one-piece swimsuits, bikinis, bras, nightgowns, and lingerie.

The other half of the stores we contacted said that they do take swimsuits, but we were told that they have strict guidelines for swimwear.

For example, associates at several stores said swimsuits must be new with the tags still attached. Some stores also require swim bottoms to have the disposable liner still intact.

And, Plato’s Closet typically only accepts complete sets, so you probably won’t be able to sell swim tops and bottoms separately.

Does Plato’s Closet Buy Bras?

We contacted Plato’s Closet corporate customer service and spoke with store associates to find out more about the company’s policy for buying undergarments — specifically bras. We were told that even if a store accepts swimsuits, it won’t accept bras or other undergarments.

Representatives specifically said that Plato’s Closet stores do not accept new or used bras for hygiene reasons.

Sports bras may be a potential exception to this policy — the Plato’s Closet website lists sports bras among its accepted activewear items. Some stores we contacted said they accept sports bras, preferably new with tags.

We were told that when determining whether or not to accept sports bras and other types of activewear, for hygienic purposes, store associates are very selective in what they accept. You will have the most luck selling your items if they are new with tags and show no signs of wear.

To find out if your nearest Plato’s Closet takes swimsuits and/or bras, it is best to contact the store directly.
