Yes, Walmart cashes two-party checks, but it’s important to understand what makes a two-party check a bit trickier to cash — at Walmart or any other store that cashes two-party checks. The Walmart Two-Party Check Policy

Walmart can cash two-party payroll checks, government checks, tax refund checks, cashier’s checks, insurance settlement checks, and 401(k) retirement disbursement checks.

When cashing a two-party check at Walmart (or anywhere else that cashes two-party checks), it’s important to note how the two names are written — specifically, if they are separated by ‘and’ or ‘or’. For instance, it could read “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” or it could read “Mr. or Mrs. Smith.” When the two names are separated by ‘and’, both people must be present to endorse and cash the check. However, if the names are separated by ‘or’, only one of the listed parties needs to be present.

If you head to Walmart to cash your two-party check, expect to pay a $3 fee for checks up to $1,000 and a $6 fee for checks for more than $1,000. You can cash checks for up to $5,000 at Walmart.

For smaller checks, check cashing is available at any register. For larger checks or any others that the register can’t handle, you have to cash the check at the MoneyCenter if your store has one. If you’re store doesn’t have a MoneyCenter, cash the check at the Customer Service desk. If your check can be cashed at the register, you can cash the check whenever the store is open. MoneyCenter and Customer Service desk hours are shorter, so for large checks, come to the store between about 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
