Short Answer — Fry’s Food sells money orders through Western Union but does not cash them. Money orders at Fry’s Food may be purchased for up to $1,000 each for a fee of around $0.80 (discounted if you have a V.I.P. card). The retailer also cashes payroll, government, income tax refund, insurance settlement, and business checks for fees of around $3 to $6.

Fry’s Food Money Order Policy

Fry’s Food and all Kroger-owned grocery stores sell money orders. The money order service used by Fry’s Food is Western Union, and money orders can be purchased for up to $1,000 each.

Cash is the only accepted payment method for money orders at Fry’s Food. To buy a money order, you’ll need enough cash for the amount of the money order and the fee.

You’ll also need a valid, government-issued photo ID.

You can buy money orders at the Money Services desk by filling out a money order form and presenting it to the cashier.

While Fry’s Food is typically open from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week, the Money Services desk has more limited hours. Typically, you can expect Money Services to be available from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re not sure if Money Services will be open, it’s best to call ahead and verify the hours before making a trip.

For customers with a free Fry’s V.I.P. Card, the fee for buying a money order is $0.69 each. You don’t need a V.I.P. Card to purchase a money order, but the fee will be slightly higher without one — usually starting at around $0.80 for every $1,000, according to customer service representatives at Fry’s Food.

While Fry’s Food sells money orders, it does not cash them.

Fry’s Food Check Cashing Policy

Fry’s Food cashes payroll, government, income tax refund, insurance settlement, and business checks at any location. Like money orders, you will need to visit the Money Services desk when it’s open to cash a check.

According to Fry’s Food customer service, the store’s check cashing fees are:

  • V.I.P. cardholders: Around $3 for checks up to $2,000; $5.50 for checks over $2,000 up to $5,000
  • Non-V.I.P. cardholders: Around $3.50 for checks up to $2,000; $6 for checks over $2,000 up to $5,000

Note that check cashing fees and limits may vary by location.
