The Home Depot Flooring Return Policy Explained

Short Answer — The Home Depot generally allows returns of new, unopened flooring within 90 days of purchase. You’ll need to provide your receipt, your credit card (if you paid with one), and a valid ID.

The Home Depot Flooring Return Policy

Flooring returns at The Home Depot fall under the general return policy, which allows a full refund or exchange within 90 days.

The flooring must be in new, unopened condition unless it’s defective. You’ll need to provide the receipt or shipping confirmation email, along with your credit card if you used one for the original purchase.[1][2]

You’ll also need a valid ID to complete your return. The Home Depot tracks returns and may refuse returns from customers with a history of frequent returns without proof of purchase.[1]

Extended Cardholder Returns

Customers who pay with The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, The Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge, or The Home Depot Commercial Account have an extended return period of 365 days from the date of purchase.[2]

Note that all other return requirements still apply.

Return Exceptions

Flooring samples are non-returnable and non-refundable. Special orders are returnable but may incur a 15% restocking fee.

Additionally, note that area rugs have a shorter return period than other flooring products — 30 days.[1]

If you placed your order online and find any shortages or damages upon delivery, you should report them by calling customer service within 30 days of purchase.[1]

Return Process

To make an in-store return, bring proof of purchase and the item(s) you wish to return to the customer service desk during regular store hours. An associate will assist you in processing your return.[2]

If your return is past the time limit, you don’t have proof of purchase, or the flooring is open or used, the store manager has discretion on whether to allow the return.

If the store accepts your return, you may receive a refund in the form of store credit at the lowest advertised price of the item rather than a full refund.[2]

Receipt Lookup

The Home Depot can look up purchases made with a credit card, debit card, or check within 30 days.

If you used a The Home Depot credit card or commercial account, the store can look up your receipt within one year of purchase.[1]

Mail-In Returns

The Home Depot uses UPS Access Point to accept online returns by mail. To use this option, sign in to your account and enter your order number, or call customer service at (800) 466-3337 to initiate the return.

The Home Depot will email you a prepaid shipping label if your order is eligible for return by mail. If the return is due to an error by The Home Depot, your refund will include the original shipping costs.[1]

Refunds

The Home Depot issues most refunds to the original form of payment. Gift card or store credit purchases and manager-approved returns with no receipt will typically receive refunds as store credit.

Note that your refund will process after the warehouse receives the item if you choose to make your return by mail. It may take up to 10 business days after the return is received for the credit to post to your account.[1]
