Is REI Dog-Friendly? Pet-Friendly?

REI does not permit shoppers to bring pets into in its stores, a corporate customer service representative said. This does not include service animals; service animals are allowed to assist their owners in stores at any time.

We contacted REI stores in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Rhode Island, and Texas for additional information. The majority of the stores we called confirmed the corporate policy, with the exception of three locations. Store associates at two different REIs said you may be permitted to bring your dog in the store if you’re looking to a buy a pet product like a pack for your dog and want to try it on your dog first. (At other stores, you’ll need to purchase the pack, try it on your dog at home, and later return it if it doesn’t fit.) And, one store in Alaska noted it has a designated dog area at the front of the store.

To find out if your nearest REI has a designated dog area, contact the store.
