Life Time Student Membership & Student Discount Policy Explained

Schedules and budgets for students and families often require careful planning, but health and wellness are important to prioritize.

Even when joining a luxury gym like Life Time, it's nice to take advantage of student savings when you can.

Life Time doesn't offer a student discount, but it does offer a less expensive membership for those 26 years old and under, which may help you (or your family) stay on track with your fitness and financial goals.

Life Time’s prices vary by location, but those who qualify for 26 & Under pricing can usually receive around $20 to $30 off the usual monthly fees.[1]

Below, I explain what you need to know before joining Life Time’s 26 & Under membership, plus other student-friendly gym membership options to consider.

Life Time Student Membership Policy

While it doesn’t offer a discount for students specifically, Life Time offers discounted memberships for those aged 26 and under.[1]

You can usually save about $20 to $30 per month on your gym membership, though the exact amount will vary by location.[1]

To find out more about the available discounts and how they work, I viewed Life Time’s online policy documentation and contacted club locations in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New York, and Oregon.

Cost

Life Time’s prices vary by location; among the gyms I contacted, regular memberships range from about $130 to $290 per month.[1]

As a 26 & Under member, you can expect to pay around $20 to $30 less than the standard fee — so, for example, you might pay $239 or $249 at a gym that typically charges $269 per month.[1]

Note that your first month will be prorated based on the number of days left in the month after you join. Additional joining fees will vary by location.[1]

Requirements

To qualify for the 26 & Under membership, you must be between the ages of 12 and 26.[2][1]

This means that middle school, high school, and college students qualify for the membership.[2][1]

However, note that Life Time considers members under the age of 14 to be Junior Members. Access to certain parts of the gym (such as the fitness floor) may require accompaniment by a parent or guardian for Junior Members.[2][1]

Since the membership isn’t designed specifically for students, you don’t need to show a student ID when you sign up.[2][1] However, you will need to show proof of your age (such as a government-issued photo ID) at your first visit.[1]

Once you reach age 27, your membership will automatically convert to a single membership with multi-center access.[2][1]

What Membership Includes

The 26 & Under membership provides access to a single Life Time fitness center.[1]

Available services at your club will typically include:[1]

  • Access to the workout floor and locker rooms
  • Unlimited cycling, yoga, and studio classes
  • Indoor and outdoor pools
  • Saunas and steam rooms
  • Rockwall climbing
  • Basketball and racquet sport courts
  • Child care for Junior Members

The following services are not included in the 26 & Under membership:[1]

  • Signature group training
  • Priority class registrations
  • Pickleball court fees

Additionally, if you want to access multiple gyms (such as one near campus and one in your hometown if you’re a college student), you’ll need to sign up for a regular membership with multi-club access.[1]

Tip: If you’re unsure whether Life Time is the right fit for you, most clubs offer One-Day Memberships for between $40 and $100, depending on the location. If you choose to join within 30 days of your visit, Life Time will deduct the cost of the One-Day Membership from your first month’s membership dues.[3]

Alternatives

If you decide that Life Time is outside of your budget or you’d prefer to compare your options, there are other gyms to consider.

Check student discount portals like UNiDAYS, SheerID, and Student Beans for active promotions.

Fitness centers like Snap Fitness and solidcore, as well as home workout options like Peloton, regularly offer membership deals when you sign up through these platforms and verify your student status.[4][5][6]

As a college student, your school might also have on-campus fitness facilities you can use — often for free if you show your student ID.[7][8][9][10]

FAQ

If I join a Life Time club near my campus, can I pause my membership during school breaks?

Once you’ve been a Life Time member for at least six months, you can suspend your membership for up to four months. Suspension is available once per calendar year, so you won’t be able to pause your membership during every break, but you can pause it if you go home for the summer, for example. Note that you must give a 30-day notice when suspending your membership.[11]

Can I change my membership location if I move to a different city/state or transfer schools?

Member Services can assist you with making changes to your membership if you’re moving away from your home club. Visit the club or contact Life Time at accountservices@lifetime.life for help.[1]

Does the 26 & Under membership include any guest passes?

Yes, Life Time offers a limited number of guest passes per member. Note that an individual non-member can only use a guest pass once every 60 days and must show a government-issued ID. If you don’t have any guest passes available, your guest can purchase a One-Day Membership.[1][12]

Does Life Time offer any other membership discounts?

Life Time doesn’t offer any other discounted membership fees, but it’s a good idea to check with your employer and health insurance plan for any additional discounts that may be available through their fitness programs.[1]

In Summary

Life Time doesn’t offer a companywide student discount, but does offer a 26 & Under membership, which costs about $20 to $30 less than a regular membership.[1]

Keep in mind that Life Time’s prices vary by location, and even with the discount, monthly fees can range between about $100 and $300 per month.[1]

Additionally, the 26 & Under membership only allows you access to one Life Time location, so if you’d like to attend multiple clubs, you’ll need to purchase a standard membership.[1]
