Walgreens does not carry ultrasound gel in stores or online, customer service representatives said.

Ultrasound gel enables ultrasound equipment to get a clear image of what’s going on inside your body by preventing air between your skin and the machine. Ultrasounds are most commonly used on pregnant women but are also used to diagnose certain illnesses and injuries.

In general, a skilled medical professional should perform ultrasounds at a doctor’s office. But there are some home ultrasound machines marketed to expectant parents and others.

Physical therapy also utilizes ultrasound technology. Sound waves can be transmitted to areas of pain and injury to reduce swelling and inflammation, relieve pain, and stimulate blood flow.[1]

Users of home ultrasound machines have reported substituting ultrasound gel with aloe vera gel or other plain, water-based gels. But, you will want to refer to your machine’s instruction guide to make sure you are operating it within the safety guidelines.

Stores That Sell Ultrasound Gel

While you won’t find ultrasound gel at Walgreens, there are other national chains that sell ultrasound gel. Walmart.com has several ultrasound gel brands available from third-party retailers. Amazon also has a selection of ultrasound gels.

Staples sells ultrasound gel on its website. You can place an order online or special order it from an in-store kiosk. Ultrasound gel is not regularly kept in-stock at Staples’ locations. However, orders placed at an in-store kiosk ship free of charge and arrive within 48 hours, customer service representatives said.

Stores that do not sell ultrasound gel online or in-store include:

  • Costco
  • CVS
  • Kroger
  • Rite Aid
  • Sam’s Club
  • Target
