Short answer: You can likely make a Walmart return after 90 days, but your refund may be issued in store credit for the current purchase price. Keep in mind, some stores may not accept returns after 90 days, but most of the store we contacted said they would. For more details, see below.
What Is the Walmart Return Policy After 90 Days?
Many Walmart store locations will issue store credit for returns made more than 90 days after purchase.
According to Walmart’s standard return policy, “items purchased in our stores or on Walmart.com may be returned or exchanged within 90 days of purchase with or without a receipt.” To find out if items are eligible for return or exchange after 90 days, we contacted Walmart store locations in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Several of the store associates we spoke to said in order to make a return after 90 days, you’ll need to show a photo ID instead of your receipt. After 90 days, store associates advise requesting a return without a receipt; with a receipt, you’ll need to make the return within 90 days of purchase. One store associate in Gordonsville, Va., said Walmart allows customers three returns without a receipt past 90 days per year.
Keep in mind, your refund will likely be issued in the form of store credit for the current price of the item, which may be less than your purchase price. And, returns will only be accepted if the item is still in Walmart’s system. This means that the item you’re returning must still be sold at Walmart stores or on Walmart.com.
While most of the stores we contacted said you can return or exchange an item past 90 days for store credit, the Walmart stores we called in North Carolina said they could not accept any returns past 90 days. Because we received varying responses, you may want to contact your local Walmart to find out if it will accept a return after 90 days.
Many Walmart stores allow returns after 90 days, as long as you present a photo ID and are willing to accept your refund in the form of store credit for the current sale price. Keep in mind, some locations won’t accept any returns after 90 days, so you may want to contact your local Walmart first.
