175 Places That Accept Discover Cards (& Who Doesn’t)

Discover cards are widely accepted in the U.S., though abroad, Mastercard and Visa are the more commonly accepted.

Below, we list the places where you can use your Discover card, including details about using the card internationally.

The List

We compiled the list of merchants that accept Discover by contacting customer service representatives for each company and viewing their credit card acceptance policies online (where available).

Note that linked company names will direct you to our previous research on that company’s payment policy.

International Acceptance

You can use your Discover card when traveling internationally to Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and various other locations.[139][140]

Discover’s International Credit Card Acceptance tool allows you to select the country you’re visiting and find details about ATM access and where you can use the card.

Note that just because Discover is accepted in a particular country doesn’t mean it’s widely accepted. Just like in the U.S., individual merchants decide which credit cards they’re willing to accept.

Also, keep in mind that if you pay in U.S. dollars, you’ll be subject to an exchange rate, which the merchant may set higher than the official currency exchange rate.[139]

Places That Don’t Accept Discover Cards

In the course of our research, we found that the following stores don’t accept Discover:

  • ASOS[141]
  • Bass Pro Shops[142]
  • Cabela’s[143]
  • Costco (Only accepts Discover at Costco.com, not at its warehouse stores)[144]
  • Family Dollar[145]
  • WinCo Foods[146]

Additionally, note that franchised or locally-owned stores may not accept Discover cards. Credit card acceptance can vary by the individual location at franchised chains like 7-Eleven and Culver’s. It’s best to contact your nearest location to find out its credit acceptance policy in these cases.

    There’s no mention of any travel/leisure companies here? Is Discover accepted by Hertz, Expedia, Marriott and the like?
