You can cash postal money orders at the post office, but there are plenty of other options (some faster or possibly more convenient).
Below, we list the banks, check cashing businesses, and other places that cash postal money orders. We also provide a list of places that don’t cash them, so you can save yourself a visit.
We verified all of the following information by checking company policies online and contacting customer service representatives.
However, note that policies may vary from one location to the next. It’s always a good idea to call ahead to make sure your intended location will cash a postal money order for you.
Banks (Account Required)
1. Bank of America
- Restrictions, fees, or other information: You can deposit the money order into your Bank of America account and withdraw $100 the same day.

9. Fifth Third Bank
- Restrictions, fees, or other information: 5/3 runs money orders through the verification system CashAccess and cashes all verified money orders.

10. HSBC
- Restrictions, fees, or other information: According to HSBC’s corporate customer service line, cashing money orders is at the discretion of the branch. Some branches may cash a postal money order whether or not you have an HSBC account.

11. Regions
- Restrictions, fees, or other information: The fee for non-account holders to cash a money order is 5% with a $5 minimum charge.
