How to Downgrade Your Planet Fitness Membership
Planet Fitness has two membership levels: the PF Black Card membership and the classic membership.
Benefits of the PF Black Card membership include the use of any Planet Fitness location, guest privileges, and access to massage and tanning services. If you find that you aren’t using these extra services, you can request to downgrade your membership by speaking with a staff member at your local Planet Fitness, corporate customer service representatives said.
You’ll need to downgrade in person; you cannot downgrade your membership over the phone or by email.
We contacted Planet Fitness locations in Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, Michigan, and New Hampshire to verify this information; all of the associates we spoke with confirmed the corporate policy.
Keep in mind, when you downgrade your membership, you may be charged a start-up fee of $29 to $39 (fees may vary by location). Your new membership level will be instated immediately; your new monthly rate will be instated on the first day of your next billing cycle.
Membership Cancellation
If you decide to cancel your membership, you must visit your local Planet Fitness or send a request to cancel to your local gym by certified mail. Your request will be reviewed and, depending on the membership agreement you signed, you may be charged a fee.
For example, if you signed a contract with a 12-month commitment and you are still within the year, you’ll be charged a $58 cancellation fee.
You cannot cancel your membership over the phone or by email.
Planet Fitness Membership Levels
- Classic membership: The classic membership at Planet Fitness allows you access to the location where you sign up. Since Planet Fitness is a franchise, classic membership fees vary from $10 to $15 per month. Some locations have no commitment and others require a 12-month commitment.
- PF Black Card membership: The PF Black Card membership is about $25 per month, depending on the location. It allows members access to any Planet Fitness facility in the U.S. And, you can bring a guest free of charge, use the tanning beds and massage chairs, receive discounts on drinks, and receive a free T-shirt and key tag.
