Buc-ee’s EBT/Food Stamp Acceptance Policy Explained

Travel stops like Buc-ee's are convenient places to fill your tank and grab a snack or meal during a road trip or your daily commute.

While recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can pay with EBT cards at some travel stops, Buc-ee's does not accept EBT.

I explain the Buc-ee’s EBT policy below, plus which other payment methods you can use at Buc-ee’s and where else to go for EBT purchases.

Does Buc-ee’s Take EBT?

Buc-ee’s doesn’t accept EBT (also known as food stamps) for any purchases, including food.[1][2]

This policy applies at all Buc-ee’s locations; I checked specific stores in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas and found that none accept EBT.[1][2]

Stores must apply to become SNAP retailers and must sell a certain amount of “staple foods” like fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, and cereal to qualify for the program.[3]

Representatives were unable to confirm why Buc-ee’s doesn’t participate in SNAP or whether it plans to accept EBT cards in the future.[1]

Other Stores That Take EBT

There are stores similar to Buc-ee’s that accept EBT. For snack options while on the road, see the gas stations that accept EBT.

Tip: If you want to find the businesses closest to you that accept EBT (including gas stations, grocery stores, farmers markets, and other types of stores), you can use the SNAP retailer locator. Enter your address or tap the “find my location” button next to the search bar to see your nearest options.

Keep in mind that at any store that accepts EBT, you can only buy SNAP-approved food items with your card. See more on what you can and can’t buy with EBT.
