Short Answer — USAA doesn’t have a standard daily deposit limit; limits vary by the individual account. For example, some account holders can deposit checks up to $10,000 through their mobile devices, while others have a smaller or larger daily limit. To find out your daily deposit limit, you’ll need to contact USAA. If you need to deposit a check that’s greater than your daily deposit limit, you may be able to have your limit temporarily adjusted.
USAA Deposit Rules for Large Checks
Since USAA handles banking online instead of through physical locations, customers can deposit checks through the USAA mobile app, by mail, or at deposit-taking ATMs in select locations.
To find a deposit-taking ATM, visit the USAA locator.
To find out how to deposit a large check, we contacted customer service representatives at USAA’s deposit center and reviewed USAA’s checking account information online.
We were told that USAA doesn’t have a standard daily deposit limit. Instead, deposit limits vary by individual account.
So, in order to deposit a large check, you’ll need to confirm that the check does not exceed your daily deposit limit.
For example, in order to deposit a $10,000 check, your daily deposit limit must be $10,000 or higher.
By contacting USAA at (800) 531-8722, you can find out what your daily deposit limit is. This information is not available online or through the USAA app.
If you need to deposit a check that’s greater than your daily deposit limit, you may be able to have your daily deposit limit temporarily increased to match the amount you need to make the deposit. Keep in mind that this courtesy is extended on a limited basis.[1]
How to Request a Deposit Limit Increase
To request a deposit limit increase, you’ll need to have the check in hand before you call USAA’s deposit center.
Once you tell the customer service representative the check amount, he or she may increase your daily limit to that amount.
You’ll need to deposit the check right away either through the mobile app or at a deposit-taking ATM; your original daily limit will likely be reinstated before midnight on the day of your request (typically around 11 p.m.).[1]
Depositing Large Checks by Mail
If you need to deposit several large checks and the checks individually exceed your daily deposit limit, you’ll need to mail the checks — along with a deposit slip — to USAA.
Even after USAA receives the checks, you may see a hold on the funds; hold times vary by individual account and are based on your account activity.[2]
How to Deposit Checks via USAA Mobile
As long as the checks don’t exceed your daily deposit limit, you can deposit as many checks as you want using the USAA mobile app.
Follow this process to deposit a check via USAA Mobile:
- Log into your USAA account on your mobile device.
- Select “deposit.”
- When prompted, take a picture of the front and back of your check.
- Choose the account where the check will be deposited.
- Enter the amount of your check.
- Select “deposit” to complete the transaction.[3]
If done correctly, USAA will state that your check was deposited successfully, and you should see the amount in your account immediately.
