Short Answer — You can rent a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner at most Safeway stores for about $20 to $50. Rentals may be available for four, 24, or 48 hours, and attachments for things like upholstery are available at an additional cost.

Safeway Carpet Cleaner Rental Policy

Safeway rents out Rug Doctor carpet cleaners at most locations.[1][2] There are three different Rug Doctor models available to rent: the X3 Carpet Cleaner, the Pro Deep Cleaner, and the Pro Portable Detailer & Spot Cleaner.[3]

Rug Doctor rental prices vary by model but are generally consistent across rental locations. You can expect to pay approximately the following for each model:[4][3]

Cleaning Solutions

Rug Doctor carpet cleaners require cleaning solutions, which you can also buy from Safeway. Rug Doctor’s own-brand cleaning solutions range between about $5 and $25; you may be able to find a less expensive solution from a different brand.[4]

Attachments for cleaning hard surfaces and other surfaces like upholstery may be available at your local Safeway. These cost about $10 to $20 each.[4]

Additional Fees

None of the Safeway locations we contacted charge a deposit, but if you return a carpet cleaner late, you’ll be charged the initial amount you paid to rent the machine each day until you return it.[4]

Some locations may charge cleaning fees of around $15 to $30 if you don’t return the machine empty and clean. Additionally, if you break the machine during your rental period, you may be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.[4]

You can’t reserve a machine online, but you can check whether your local Safeway rents out Rug Doctors by entering your zip code at the Rug Doctor website.

Note that not all models are available at all Safeway locations that offer Rug Doctor rental. For example, one store we contacted in Flagstaff, AZ only had the Pro Deep Cleaner available. After confirming that your local Safeway offers rentals, you may still want to call the store to check current availability.

Rental Process

To rent a Rug Doctor at Safeway, visit the customer service desk. Safeway requires two forms of ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID card, student ID, credit card, state-issued photo ID, or immigration card.[4]

You can pay for your rental with a credit card or debit card. Safeway doesn’t accept cash or checks for Rug Doctor rentals due to the possibility of late fees.[4]

When it’s time to return the machine, return it to the same store where you rented it.[4]

Other Carpet Cleaner Rental Options

If your local Safeway store doesn’t rent out carpet cleaners, you can find similar rentals at other retailers like Food Lion and Walmart (as previously reported).
