Short Answer — Walmart offers Rug Doctor carpet cleaner rental kiosks at some locations. Rental prices range from around $30 to $40 per day. Cleaning solutions and accessories are also available at an additional cost of $10 to $25 per item.

Walmart Carpet Cleaner Rental

Walmart offers Rug Doctor carpet cleaner rentals at many locations through self-service kiosks.[1][2] These kiosks may offer Mighty Pro, X3, Wide Track, Pro Deep, and/or Pro Portable carpet cleaning machines depending on the location.[3][4][5][6]

Walmart doesn’t rent steam cleaning machines or cleaning tools made specifically for hard floors. Check out our research on grout and tile cleaning machine rentals for information on where to go for your other floor cleaning needs.

Pricing

Rug Doctor rental costs vary depending on the model and rental period. Quotes from Walmart store customer service representatives and the Rug Doctor online reservation system indicate the following approximate prices:

There are no late fees for carpet cleaner rentals at Walmart, but Rug Doctor will charge an additional day’s rental fee if you don’t return the cleaner by its due date and time. This will continue for each day until the carpet cleaner is returned. For example, if you return a Mighty Pro machine two days late, you’ll pay a total of $90 in rental fees — $30 for your first day and $60 for the two late days.[1][7]

Cleaning Solutions

Rug Doctor machines require cleaning solutions, which will add to your total rental cost. Rug Doctor-branded cleaning solutions range from around $10 to $25 at Walmart and include options for specialized needs like pre-treatment and pet stains.[1][8]

While you can use a solution from a different brand or create one yourself, Rug Doctor recommends using its own solutions for the best results.[9]

Accessories

Available accessories vary by location but may include attachments for particular uses like upholstery cleaning or drying fans.[10] These typically range in price from around $10 to $20, in addition to the cost of the carpet cleaning machine.

How to Rent

Rug Doctor’s self-service kiosks are usually located at the front of Walmart stores near the customer service desk.[1] Note that Rug Doctor rental isn’t available at all Walmart stores; it’s best to check Rug Doctor’s rental locator before visiting your local store.

The rental kiosk will include a touch screen where you can select the machine you want, enter your information (name, address, and phone number), and swipe your credit card, debit card, or Walmart MoneyCard to pay the rental fee. Swiping your card will unlock the kiosk so you can remove a cleaning machine.[1]

You also have the option to reserve a machine online if your local store allows it. Enter your zip code into Rug Doctor’s rental locator and choose the desired store. If the online reservation option is available, you’ll see a “Reserve Now” button beneath the store’s address.[6] The online reservation system allows you to add a machine and carpet cleaning solutions to your order and pay online with a credit card.

Returning a Rug Doctor

When returning a Rug Doctor, you’ll enter your information on the kiosk’s touch screen and place the machine back into the kiosk. Note that before you return your carpet cleaner to Walmart, you should take the time to empty and clean the machine. Walmart doesn’t charge penalties for returning a machine without cleaning it,[10] but cleaning helps keep the machines in good working order.
