Short Answer — Some bicycles available at Walmart include a manufacturer’s warranty ranging from 90 days to one year. Walmart also offers an optional Protection Plan for bikes, which covers defective items and damage from normal wear and tear; the cost of the plan depends on the bicycle you purchase.
Walmart Bike Warranty Policy
Walmart offers warranty protection for bicycles through the Walmart Protection Plan.
The Walmart Protection Plan is available for an additional cost at the same time you purchase a bike, or within 30 days following your purchase, corporate customer service representatives said.
In addition to the optional Walmart Protection Plan, many bicycles come with a manufacturer’s limited warranty at no additional charge, which typically lasts 90 days to one year from the purchase date.
Walmart Protection Plan
The Walmart Protection Plan covers parts and labor when damage is from normal wear and tear, defective workmanship, or defective materials.
The plan does not cover the following issues:
- Damage from anything other than normal use
- Defects from faulty assembly
- Intentional damage
- Loss or theft
- Pre-existing issues
As noted above, you can purchase the Protection Plan at the same time you buy the bike or can add the protection plan within 30 days of your original purchase. To get a protection plan for an item you bought within the past 30 days, visit the Walmart Protection Plan website.
Square Trade, an Allstate company, underwrites the Walmart Protection Plan for bicycles. If you bought your bicycle prior to August 1, 2018, your plan underwriter is Asurion.
Cost
The cost of the Walmart Protection Plan is based on the price and brand of the bike you choose.
For example, a women’s Huffy Classic Cruiser costs about $150; the Protection Plan for this bike costs $16 for one year or $22 for two years. A Schwinn men’s 21-speed bike, meanwhile, costs about $200 and offers a three-year Protection Plan for $34 or a four-year plan for $45.
You can check the protection plan choices for particular bikes at Walmart.com. When you add the bike to your cart, Protection Plan options will appear.
Filing a Claim
You will need your original proof of purchase (e.g., your store receipt) to file a claim. You can call customer service at (877) 538-4389 and explain the issue or file a claim online at Walmart’s website.
Within a 12-month period, if your bicycle has two repairs for the same issue and then needs a third repair for that issue, Walmart will replace your bicycle with an identical or comparable bike or offer cash so you can purchase a replacement.
Protection Plan Cancellation
You can cancel your Walmart Protection Plan within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. After 30 days, you will receive a pro-rated amount based on the time remaining on your plan.
To cancel your Walmart Protection Plan within thirty days, return to the store of purchase with the original receipt, or log in to your Walmart.com account. After 30 days, you must cancel online with Square Trade.
Manufacturer’s Warranty
If your bike comes with a manufacturer’s warranty, you will be eligible for repairs and services from the manufacturer under certain conditions.
Warranty coverage varies widely by brand and by item, but usually covers defects in materials or workmanship.
If you purchase the Walmart Protection Plan for a bike that also has a manufacturer’s warranty and your bike has an issue, you can file a claim with the Protection Plan; Walmart will notify you if the manufacturer’s warranty covers the issue. If you are eligible for a manufacturer’s warranty claim, Walmart will refer you to the manufacturer for repairs.
