24 Hour Car Rental: 12 Places to Get a Car Rental 24 Hours a Day

There are two main methods of getting 24 hour car rentals; one is the traditional car rental from some of the major carriers like Alamo or Hertz, which have 24/7 locations, usually located at large airports. The second is through newer car sharing services like Zipcar and Turo.

While not everyone considers “car sharing” to be the same as a rental, for both you are typically paying by the hour or day for use of a vehicle that you drive. Not surprisingly, there is some crossover between both types of companies, as we’ll see in the first company on the list below, Enterprise.

Companies That Offer 24 Hour Car Rentals

While one of the very first car sharing services, Witkar, was started in Amsterdam in 1974, the newer companies, like Zipcar (described in detail further within article), came on the scene in the early 2000s, and since then the concept of sharing a local vehicle with other drivers has become a more popular concept. One of the big conveniences with using a car sharing service is that they can be utilized 24/7 because a person doesn’t need to visit a rental counter to get a vehicle. We’ve compiled a list of some of the car sharing services where you can rent 24 hours a day, and explained how each work below.

Rental Companies with 24 Hour Airport Locations

Alamo

Rental Companies Without 24 Hour Airport Locations

The following rental car companies do not have any confirmed for 24-hour locations listed on their website.

  • Dollar
  • Thrifty
  • U-Save

In Summary

Ride sharing services like Zipcar provide the freedom to find a car without needing to check in at a counter or airport, but the renter does need to sign up ahead of time, usually pay a membership fee, and cars may not be offered in all locations. If you’re more comfortable with a traditional rental car service, then one of the 24/7 airport locations of some of the major rental car companies is the best option, and you might be able to skip the counter and head directly to your rental car with their “skip the counter” programs.
