DSW allows returns and exchanges of new, unworn shoes and accessories within 60 days. You’ll need the receipt and the box for a full refund. The policy is the same for in-store and online purchases.
DSW Return Policy
You can return or exchange shoes and accessories to DSW within 60 days of purchase in-store or online, a corporate customer service representative said.
To receive a full refund to your original payment method, we were told that items must be in like-new condition, in the original box or packaging, and be accompanied by the receipt. Final sale merchandise cannot be returned or exchanged.
We contacted DSW stores in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, and Utah to confirm this information.
Returning Defective Items
Defective items can only be returned if they are unused or unworn. That means if a heel breaks after you’ve worn it, it is not eligible for return.
However, if you notice a defect before you wear them out, you can return the shoes within 60 days of purchase as long as you have the box and receipt.
Similarly, unworn clearance items are eligible for return at DSW within 60 days (as previously reported).
If you don’t have the receipt, but you have a DSW account and/or you paid with a credit card, a store associate may be able to look up your transaction. If your receipt cannot be looked up, you will be refunded at the current sale price in the form of a merchandise credit.
You’ll need to show a valid photo ID to make a return without a receipt.
Online purchases can be returned in-store or by mail. A FedEx shipping label will be included in your online order; if you decide to return your online purchase using the enclosed shipping label, DSW will deduct $8.50 from your refund.
You can also choose to ship your return back using USPS or another carrier at your own expense.

Returns After 60 Days
After 60 days, you may be able to return items for store credit. DSW VIP Elite members have up to one year to make a return.
DSW & PayPal
DSW accepts PayPal for online orders. Since refunds are typically made to the original payment method, PayPal transactions will be refunded in the form of store credit.
To exchange an item purchased with PayPal, you’ll need to visit your nearest DSW, according to corporate customer service.
Specialty products like batteries, dry shampoo, fragrances, nail polish, products containing alcohol, and USB rechargeable devices can only be returned to a store if they are unopened.
