FedEx Corporate, Express, and Services employees, as well as their family members, are eligible for discounted airfare when flying standby. The discount varies by airline and destination but can be as much as 90% off a full-price ticket. You must have passed FedEx’s Personal Travel Certification Test within the last six months to receive the employee discount. For more details about FedEx’s employee airfare discount, see below.
FedEx Employee Discounts for Airfare
FedEx Corporate, Express, Services employees, plus their spouses, children, and parents, are eligible for discounted airfare when flying standby, a FedEx customer service representative confirmed. Family members do not need to fly with a FedEx employee in order to receive the discount.
Flying standby is when a passenger travels on a flight without a confirmed reservation. You’re not guaranteed to board your chosen flight — which can make booking accommodations and car rentals difficult — but you’ll be able to get to your destination at a discount. Standby passengers are given open seats by priority. Priority ranking goes as follows:
- Customers who have purchased a ticket but are on standby
- Commuting pilots
- Commuting flight attendants
- Leisure pilots
- Leisure flight attendants
- Employees of FedEx and other similar courier companies
The FedEx employee airfare discount amount varies depending on the destination and the airline’s agreement with FedEx. The discount can be as much as 90% off a full-price ticket, a FedEx employee confirmed. You must have passed FedEx’s Personal Travel Certification Test within the last six months in order to take advantage of the employee discount. The test is free to take and proves to FedEx that you know how to conduct yourself when flying standby.
Before you travel, you’re required to purchase a standby ticket from the airline at least seven days before your desired travel date. You can do this by calling the airline directly or via myIDTravel, where you’ll need to enter your FedEx employee ID and password. Standby tickets are valid for 90 days from the date of issue. If you’re unable to travel, you may be able to request a refund before the 90 days are up.
On your desired date of travel, FedEx recommends that you arrive at the airport 90 to 120 minutes before departure. You’ll need to present your government-issued photo ID and your FedEx-issued photo ID badge (if you have one).

I would like to know where I can take the test I need to take in order to receive the discount airfare tickets.
Hello, Katherine! While FedEx employees report that the test is conducted online, FedEx does not share a link to the test publicly. You will need to contact your supervisor for information about where and how to take the test. Best of luck!
