In general, Walmart accepts appliance returns within 90 days of purchase, but some items like air conditioners must be returned within 30 days. Appliances can be returned to a Walmart store for free or by freight shipping for an additional charge. For more details on the Walmart appliance return policy, see below.
Walmart Appliance Return Policy
Walmart sells a variety of appliances in-store and offers an even wider range of items on its website — from large appliances like refrigerators and washing machines to countertop appliances like coffee makers, toasters, and blenders. Most large and small appliances fall under Walmart’s standard 90-day return policy, including dishwashers, slow cookers, toaster ovens, and vacuum cleaners, and can be returned for any reason. However, some items, namely air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and generators must be returned within 30 days.
Return instructions vary by item, a corporate customer service representative said. In general, you should bring the item in its original packaging (even if the box is opened), along with any parts and/or accessories and your receipt to the customer service counter at your nearest Walmart. If you don’t have your receipt, a store associate may be able to look up your transaction.
In-store purchases should be returned to a Walmart store; online purchases shipped and sold by Walmart.com can be returned to any store or by mail. (To learn how to return an item purchased from a Walmart.com third-party retailer, see our article.) If you purchased a large appliance and are unable to bring it to a store due to its size, you may be able to contact Walmart to arrange for free at-home pickup; two of the four corporate representatives we spoke with said pickup is available. Freight shipping is also available for a fee; the price will be determined by the carrier. For more details on freight shipping, see our article on Walmart furniture returns.
Note that some items like refrigerators can only be returned in-store due to federal mail restrictions on hazardous materials. If your item is eligible for “return by mail,” it will be noted in your Walmart.com order history.
Walmart only offers installation and assembly services for certain lighting products, electronics, and furniture — not appliances. If you have an issue with your purchase after having it installed, you’ll need to uninstall it yourself or contact a local installer for assistance.
You can return most appliances — including countertop items like coffee makers and large appliances like refrigerators — to Walmart within 90 days of purchase. A few items like air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and generators must be returned within 30 days. Walmart offers freight shipping for oversized items and may be able to arrange free in-home pickup if you contact customer service.
