Does Giant Food Cash Checks?
Giant Food will cash personal checks, and if you apply and are approved for a Payroll and Business Check Cashing card in your local store, it will cash payroll and government checks. Giant Food may also cash welfare checks if you present a government-issued ID.
You can cash a check during normal business hours; most stores are open from around 6 a.m. until midnight.
Giant Food has a detailed check cashing policy available on its website. We contacted stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to confirm this information; all stores we spoke with confirmed the use of this policy.
You must meet the following requirements to cash a check at Giant Food:
Check Cashing Card
As noted above, to cash a payroll or government check, you will need to apply for a Payroll and Business Check Cashing card. Note that individual stores determine approval for and issue the Payroll and Business Check cashing card.
The first time you cash a check at Giant Food, or if you do not appear in the TeleCheck verification system, you must show a photo ID when cashing your check. Giant Food will accept a valid driver’s license, military ID, or state-issued photo ID card as identification.
Giant Food uses TeleCheck, a third-party check verification company, to process checks and protect against fraud using predictive analysis. Giant Food will run your check through its TeleCheck system, which then decides if the store should accept your check.
You will need to sign and endorse all checks. If your check is approved, you’ll also sign a receipt and be given a copy that you can keep for your records.
If TeleCheck declines your check, you can dispute the decision by calling TeleCheck at (888) 398-2331 or by filling out the online TeleCheck dispute form. For other places to cash your check, see our list of stores that don’t use TeleCheck or Certegy for check verification.
