Target Furniture Return Policy Explained

Short Answer — You can return unopened furniture to Target within 90 days after purchase with the receipt. Target RedCard holders have an extended return period of 120 days, and Target-owned brands are returnable within one year. If you’ve opened the packaging, are missing the receipt, or the return period has ended, you can still try to return your item, but acceptance will be at the store manager’s discretion.

Target Furniture Return Policy

Target allows the return or exchange of unopened furniture within 90 days with a receipt.[1] This applies to both in-store and online purchases.

Target RedCard cardholders have an additional 30 days for returns (meaning a total return period of 120 days).[1]

Target-owned brands like Hearth & Hand with Magnolia and Room Essentials also have an extended return period of one year with the original receipt.[1][2]

Item Condition

Furniture returns need to be unassembled and in their original packaging. Items that show obvious signs of damage, use, or disassembly won’t be refunded.[3]

However, Target will issue a refund if an item is defective or gets damaged during shipping or delivery.[1][3]

Return Process

In-Store Returns

Bring your item, preferably along with the receipt and your original payment method, to the customer service desk during regular store hours.[3]

If you don’t have your receipt, you should still be able to make a return.

Store associates can use your online purchase confirmation, the item’s barcode, and/or your original payment method to look up your receipt. Target may request your photo ID to track your return.[3]

Keep in mind that acceptance is ultimately at the discretion of the store manager.[3]

For example, Target may accept returns of opened furniture or may accept returns after 90 days if you still have your receipt and the item is still in new condition (i.e., there are no clear signs of wear or assembly/disassembly).

Online Returns

You can return online purchases at a store following the process described above or by mail.

To make a return by mail, be sure you have the unopened item with all of its accessories, then log into your Target.com account to find the order in your purchase history.

Follow the prompts for returning by mail; print the shipping label, attach it to the box, and drop off the item at a UPS location.[1]

You can schedule a return pickup for particularly large items.[1] To determine if your item is eligible for pickup, have your order information on hand and call Target Guest Services at (800) 591-3869.

For items that were shipped to you, you may also need your packing slip to schedule the return pickup.

Note that Target will only refund shipping charges if you are returning the item because of an error made by Target (e.g., the item you received was the wrong color).[1] There are no restocking fees for returns or exchanges.[3]
