Short Answer — Walmart accepts car seat returns within 90 days of purchase, with or without a receipt. Even if the car seat is opened or used, Walmart will accept your return. You can also mail in your return if you purchased the car seat online.
Walmart Car Seat Return Policy
Car seats are eligible for return at Walmart within 90 days of purchase under the company’s standard return policy — even if the box is open, you have used the car seat, or you do not have the receipt.[1]
Walmart will issue a refund to your original payment method or it will issue a store credit, depending on whether or not you have your receipt.
The standard return policy covers car seats purchased in stores or on Walmart.com, except for those shipped and sold by a third-party seller.[2]
Open-Box Returns
Walmart will accept returns of car seats that are opened or used. You must provide the original packaging and include all of the car seat’s original accessories with your return.[1]

Returns Without a Receipt
Without the receipt, however, you’ll need to show a photo ID and pass the refund verification process.
For verification, an associate will scan the barcode on the car seat’s box, so you will need to bring the original packaging. Your refund will be issued as store credit.

Online Returns
If you purchased a car seat online at Walmart.com, you can return it to any Walmart store, or you can mail in the return.
To mail in a car seat return, simply log into your Walmart.com account, locate your order, and print the prepaid return shipping label. Ship the car seat, along with the original packaging and all accessories, within 90 days, and your refund will be processed within two to three weeks.[1]
Gifted Car Seat Returns
If you receive a car seat as a gift, you can return it to a Walmart store with or without a receipt. You can also choose to replace the item if it is defective.
With proof of purchase, such as a packing slip or gift receipt, you can receive a refund as store credit or cash; without the receipt, your refund will be store credit.[1]
Recalled Car Seat Returns
Car seats are occasionally recalled for safety concerns. If you purchased your car seat at Walmart and it gets recalled, you can return it at any time — regardless of the purchase date or the date the recall was announced. You will not be required to provide the receipt or original packaging.[3]
Walmart will issue you a cash refund for the recalled product. You can find the list of current recalls on Walmart products on the company’s website.
