Short Answer — You have 30 days to return most Walmart electronics for a full refund with the receipt and the original packaging. You can also typically return electronics without the receipt, but your refund will be in the form of store credit. There are exceptions for prepaid cell phones, which have a return window of 14 days, and final sale items, which are not returnable.
Walmart’s Electronics Return Policy
Walmart’s standard return policy allows you to return online and in-store electronics purchases with the receipt and original packaging within 30 days of purchase or delivery.[1] However, return time limits are ultimately at the discretion of the store manager, a corporate customer service representative said.
We contacted stores in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, and Virginia to verify the Walmart electronics return policy. All Walmart locations we spoke with adhere to the standard return policy.
If you do not have your receipt, note that Walmart uses a refund verification system for no-receipt returns.
You can get store credit for a non-receipted return, but you do need to have the original manufacturer’s packaging. Store associates will scan this to ensure the item was purchased from Walmart. Store managers have the ultimate say in approving non-receipted returns.
Additionally, many Walmart stores are open 24 hours but only accept returns during certain times.

- Cell phone minutes or any item with an electronic PIN
- Digital video game cards
- Software via eDelivery
- New or opened personal intimate massagers
Also, prepaid cell phones are only eligible for return within 14 days of purchase (as previously reported).
Exchanges
Electronic items eligible for return are also eligible for exchange within the same period, and the same general guidelines apply. The one exception is for media, such as games, movies, and music — you can’t return these when they’re open, but you can exchange them.
When exchanging for a different item rather than a replacement of the same item, you must return the original item following the standard process, then complete payment for the new item.
If it is not an even price exchange, you will either pay the remaining balance of the new item or receive a refund for the price difference.[2]
Warranty Returns
If you purchase a warranty for an item you decide to return, or you wish to cancel the warranty, you can do so within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. After 30 days, you will receive a prorated refund for the remaining policy time.[3]
If you cancel or return an online order, your protection plan should automatically cancel. If you replace the item within 30 days, the protection plan will transfer to the new item.
However, if you replace the item after 30 days, you should request to cancel the protection plan on Walmart’s website or by calling Walmart customer care at (800) 925-6278.
Recalled Electronics Returns
If your Walmart electronics purchase is recalled, you typically don’t need the receipt, all components, or the original packaging to return the item.[1]
The rules and regulations for each recalled item will vary, so you should contact your local Walmart to determine how to proceed.
